Jesus has just shared that he is the good shepherd. He shared about his ability to lay his life down, while having authority to take it back up again. He must show his ability to do this for his followers.

Upon his death, Lazarus’ sisters tell Jesus “if you had just been here, Lazarus wouldn’t have died.” Jesus responds and delivers one of the most profound statements of his earthly ministry.

I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who believes in me shall never die.

Explicit faith in Jesus is required. A response is demanded. Jesus, if you believe in him, has already made you alive with him. Enjoy.
