As Jesus continues his farewell discourse he promises his disciples the coming helper; the Holy Spirit. Through our union with Christ the Father and the Son make their home in those who believe in Jesus, by the Spirit. Therefore we should walk by the Spirit as we seek to live lives glorifying to God.
Jesus was an unexpected King who came to rule and reign in a kingdom that will never end. But many would never have expected his reign to come through not in spite of his death. In fact, his kingdom must be inaugurated through his death, resurrection, and ascension. Ultimatley leading to his glorification as the Son at the right hand of the Father.
We all worship something. What do you worship? There is only one recipient of “right” worship, all others are sinful and wrong. What happens when God is worshipped? There are witnesses who see the goodness of God. Believer, you will never find yourself saying, “I worshipped God too much.”
As believers in Christ, we are called to the same holiness of God. We have been made holy, and we are called to live holy lives for the glory of the one who is holy.
I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who believes in me shall never die.
Explicit faith in Jesus is required. A response is demanded. Jesus, if you believe in him, has already made you alive with him. Enjoy.
What will you do with Jesus? Confess him as Christ or turn away? The difference comes from being drawn by the Father to the Son. Have you believed in Christ?
Take and eat. The prohibition in the garden of Eden is now used to provide eternal life. Though, this food is no longer the forbidden fruit but is the flesh of the sinless Son of God. In John 6:22-59, Jesus teaches of being the True bread, sent from heaven. “I am the bread of life”
Jesus is the sent Son of God. The Father, John the Baptist, The Scriptures, and Moses all point to this truth. Gaze into the splendor of who He is, and what He has done. Don't put your hope in the things that point to Him. Put your hope in Jesus! Believe and live.
Do you find yourself in the trap of comparison? Scroll through youtube or any social media platform and you’ll see, and feel compelled to, compare yourself to others. Well, John, in this section of His Gospel, reminds us that there is a greater comparison; one in which we are woefully fallen short. Jesus is supreme over all things, and the love the Father has for him, so much so that he has given him dominion over all things. The main point of this sermon is that Jesus has Supremacy and Dominion over all things, and therefore we should believe in Him.
What was the motivation for sending the Son? What was the purpose for which he was sent? Why did He need to be sent? This text answers these questions.
Jesus knows you better than you know yourself. Does that comfort or alarm you? It should do both and here’s why.
Jesus desires pure worship yet knowing it would take his life, death, and resurrection to open up a way for his people to worship purely, in Spirit and in Truth.
Who are you following? All through out scripture, Jesus is revealed as the Messiah. There are some in this passage who confess this and begin to tell others. A mark of a follower of Jesus is that they tell others about him.
Road signs point to something expected, like the mile markers and billboards leading to Disney World, but they are not Disney World. Similarly John the Baptist is asked who he is, and he directs the attention to Jesus: The Son, the real thing!
John opens his Gospel with a profound reality of the person of Christ; one who is eternal, distinct, and is God. This theme will be John’s purpose in writing, that we may believe in Jesus Christ the Son of God. We can know God through Jesus Christ. He has made him known!
What is the mission of the Church? Who are it’s members? The Bible answers both of these questions. In this sermon we will unpack the truths of being New Covenant People with a Great Commission.
The Gospel created the Church, but it also sustains it. Paul, in Ephesians 3 unpacks the implications of the Gospel, lived out in normal everyday life, show God’s wisdom. In other words, the Church makes the Gospel visible; it displays it in the world and beyond. This was God’s plan from the very beginning.
The final scene of Ruth shows us that redemption extends to more than just Naomi and Ruth. The birth of a son connects to the Davidic reign which connects us to Jesus Christ. Through Him, all who call on his name will find redemption. The story of Ruth has immediate impact as well as eternal impact.
